Whens It Supposed to Snow Again in Pagosa Springs Colorado

Information technology was a flavor of ups and downs with a slow start, a remarkable comeback just before the new twelvemonth, a pretty dull January and February, and so a ramp-upwardly to end the flavor. At that place were dry and frustrating periods, there were deep pulverization days, and most chiefly, we all got out to ride. Thanks for reading, and best wishes for a wonderful spring, summertime, and fall!

The 2021-2022 Season

The graphic below shows the snowpack across Colorado thanks to a network of nearly 115 regime-run snow sensors chosen SNOTEL. These sensors are located betwixt nearly 8,000-11,000 anxiety in elevation and report hourly snowfall measurements.

The snowpack starts at zippo in the lesser-left corner on October 1, increases throughout the season, and commonly peaks in early April before melting out to zero in June on the bottom-correct corner.

The black line is this season's snowpack, the green line is the median snowpack betwixt 1991-2020, and the color shading shows the 10th, 30th, 50th, 70th, and 90th percentiles. Here is a direct link to the information.

Nosotros started the season off slowly. When the black line is apartment, that means we saw very fiddling or no snowfall.

And so the comeback arrived just in time for the cease of Dec busy vacation catamenia with the snowpack zooming from well below the median to well above the median in just about two weeks.

In January and February, the black line was pretty apartment, which mean a famine of big storms across the land. During this time, there were storms, and there were pulverisation days, it was just, on boilerplate for all mountains, not a very agile time.

Then as nosotros moved toward the spring months of March and Apr, we saw more storminess (black line going up) as well as periods of warm and dry atmospheric condition when the snowpack began to melt (black line going down).

Information technology appears now every bit I write this on April 26 that we are heading for a snowpack cook-out that will be earlier than the median as the black line is already to the left of the green line.

For the season as a whole, I could phone call information technology 'ok'. Information technology could accept been worse, information technology could accept been meliorate, and there were memorable powder days for the northern, central, and southern mountains.

2 Photos

Beneath are two photos that came to mind when I thought about the season.

The commencement photograph was from Steamboat on March ix, 2022, afterwards near two feet of blower pulverisation barbarous overnight and into the morning. When I call back of a deep powder solar day, this is the type of image that I keep in my mind. See the full movie clip from Vicente Katz hither.

The second photograph is a personal one. Information technology shows my son (left, 4 years erstwhile) and his friend (right, 6 years erstwhile) when they rode the elevator past themselves. These kiddos had a blast choosing their own lines and feeling the freedom of sliding on snowfall, and I call up it's these feelings of independence and exploration that connects most of us to the sport.

I promise that you have a wonderful spring, summertime, and fall, and again, Thanks for reading the Colorado Daily Snowfall this season, during previous seasons, telling your friends nigh OpenSnow, and more generally, for loving snow and skiing and riding every bit much as myself and our entire team do!

I'll see y'all back here in the autumn of 2022.
